Sea Turtles!

Dsc00423

More than a haven for surfers, Nicaragua's Pacific coast welcomes millions of turtle hatchlings every year. Between one and two million baby turtles emerge from the sands of Nicaragua's Pacific coast to begin their perilous journey out to sea. During my trip, our group had the opportunity to release over 100 baby Olive Ridleys, one of the world's smallest species, and over 100 baby Leatherback's! It was such a magical experience, but unfortunately, we also witnessed the local poacher's stealing the sea turtle eggs.

The Nicaraguan government is trying to educate the public concerning the endangered turtles, but the locals believe the eggs are an aphrodisiac, and a black market exists. I hope to put together an awareness video and raise some money for the Reserva Silvestre Qelantaro, a Nicaraguan organisation trying to conserve the sea turtle eggs on the Pacific coast. They delivered a presentation to our yoga group and hope to raise $35,000 USD to keep their organisation running year-round.

Back from Nicaragua! I'm a certified yoga instructor!

I flew in from Managua on Tuesday after almost a month of yoga and surfing in Nicaragua. I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training with Julia McCabe (www.juliamccabe.com). It was an incredible experience. I hope to have my images and videos up soon!
