Getting stoked about 3D

In researching different production companies shooting 3D projects I found a few interesting websites and a couple great companies currently producing high-quality programming in 3D. There are some great links and information on these sites, and they get me extremely excited about the future of high-quality 3D programming.

http://www.http://dimension3productions.com

In particular, I'm really interested in what Parallax Films are doing.

Check out their 3D demo and see for yourself:

Since the initial 3D boom a few years back, I have been interested in producing 3D projects, and have gone so far as to write a detailed proposal for an extreme sports television program. I purchased the website domains extremeteamcanada.com, extremeteamamerica.com and extremeteam3d, hoping to develop these properties for Discovery Channel 3D in the United States. The six-part, 1hr series will feature and follow 18 extreme athletes (three per episode) as they give us a glimpse into their extreme, adrenaline-filled passions. The six sports will include Snowboarding, Skiing, Mountain Biking, Kite Surfing, Parachuting, and Rock Climbing. I will produce the series in the beautiful sea-to-sky corridor and will capture some of the most stunning footage ever shot in 3D.

Additionally, I purchased the domain mybackstagepass.tv and plan to develop this site as a live concert streaming website for musical acts performing in Vancouver. Similar to YouTube and Vevo's "“Unstaged: An Original Series from American Express,” I plan to develop mybackstagepass.tv as a similar service in the Vancouver market. First and foremost though, I have to make the right connections including great venues, bands and the copyright stakeholders to bring talent on board.

Right now though, I've got to get my proposals and website up to date. It should be an interesting fall if all goes according to plan...

The Job Search Begins...

So today marks the first day of my aggressive job hunt in the Vancouver area. After sending out a few CV's via e-mail in response to some great jobs and receiving no reply, I  have decided to do what I should have done to begin with - POUND THE PAVEMENT! I am also developing my personal website at www.ryandoucette.net.

The truth is, most job postings receive so many responses that it is hard cut through the clutter. Furthermore, it is hard to get a sense of someone just from a few sheets of a CV. I have such diverse and varied experience that it is impossible to get a sense of what I am capable of based on a few pages of text. I must meet people in person for them to get a sense of WHO I AM.

That being said, it all comes down to diligence. If you put something out into the universe, the universe tends to respond with your desires. If you want something bad enough, you'll get it. Anything is possible.

Festival of Lights - English Bay - Spain

I had the pleasure of checking out the Celebration of Light last Saturday night at English Bay, which is just around the corner from where I live.

http://www.celebration-of-light.com/

Spain put on an incredible show and the finale was spectacular! I can't wait to see Mexico on Wednesday, July 28th and China on Saturday, July 31st. The weather looks to be crystal clear once again!

After moving to Vancouver less than a month ago, I stand in awe of this city. There's so much going on and the opportunities seem endless. I am so happy with my new home.

The Middle Stall - 72 hour filmmaker's showdown submission 2010

This is the short film I produced, directed and edited as part of the
Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival 72 filmmaker's showdown. The
events in this film ACTUALLY happened to me before a gig last year!
Needless to say, you should I always check for urinals when conducting
necessary business affairs!

Sloth crawling on the beach in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica

Had the very lucky experience to capture a sloth on video up close! My friends and I were walking along the beach in Manuel Antonio National Park in Costa Rica when we came across a sloth crawling along the beach towards some trees. We suspect that it fell out of a tree branch hanging over the sand while eating some leaves. Sloth's are beautiful creatures and they're always smiling! Such an amazing experience to see one up close as they're usually huddled high up in the forest canopy and rarely come down to the ground.
