G'day mates!
Well, I have to admit, it's been a while since I last posted anything truly significant. All of a sudden, you guessed it, a new surprise destination! As of July 2nd 2006, I will be a resident of Lord Howe Island, NSW. More on that in a sec...
I guess Summer has finally arrived for all you Canadians (and Northern hemisphere kids), so I'd expect that you've all been outside playing hacky-sack, lounging at the beach, and enjoying tasty beverages and grilled meat on a patio somewhere. Well, at least I hope so...
I must start off by saying that I am definitely missing my many friends and family back home, and honestly, I think about them constantly. A wonderful beauty of travelling in a foreign land is that the mind is able to relflect whole-heartedly. Seriously, I hope each and every one of you are doing well in every aspect of your lives: mind, body and soul.
On with the journey...Until about a week ago, my plans where to continue on from Brisbane to Northern Queensland to undertake my scuba dive certification and sailing lessons. Now, my plans have change 90 degrees (quite literally), and I am heading 770 km out into the Pacific Ocean to Lord Howe island (
www.lordhoweisland.info) to work at a resort called Pinetrees (
www.pinetreesresort.com.au). I have taken a three month contract working 40 hours / week, and plan to spend each and every moment of my time off exploring, surfing, fishing, snorkelling, golfing, eating and drinking... and not necessarily in that order!
The island is protected as a world heritage site and has the most southern coral reef in the world. It has a few resorts, around 350 year-round residents, and some of the most unique and diverse flora and fauna in the world. I have posted a few pictures and images above from
Google Earth software and other links.
If you are seriously interested in learning more about the island, check out the above and following links...
